Frequently asked questions about portable Solar Chargers

     Solar Charger Q + A

Can I Travel Safely with Solar

Our rugged solar chargers can simply be placed on the outside of your bag (for optimum solar potential) or slid away inside the sleeve of any backpack. We recommend placing your solar charger in a secure yet easy access spot like a side or front pocket of your bag.

Can I take a solar charger on a plane?

In short, the answer is yes solar chargers can be taken on a plane but if they contain a battery it should go in your carry-on bag and shouldn't exceed 100wH in power.  REF Island charger is typically the size of your phone and easy to store.

Do solar phone chargers really work?

The short answer is yes!  The technology is definitely a viable one for charging your mobile devices, but some definitely work better than others, and not all are designed to handle every situation.

What should I look for when buying a solar charger?

The main variables are the Solar Panel Size, Battery Size.  Surface area: The larger the solar panel, the more sunlight it collects and the faster it gets converted to power stored in a battery.  The Larger the battery size or mAh.  The larger the mAh the more energy is stored in the battery.

Can I bring 20000mAh Power Bank on the plane?

Normally the output voltage is 5V, so the allowed capacity would be 20000mAh. That means the capacity of power banks within 20000mAh would be applicable.

Where do you put your charger when flying?

Do not pack your portable charger (power pack) in checked luggage.  Taking your portable phone charger (power pack) on a plane is fine, but just remember to pack it in your hand luggage. Do not put them in your checked luggage as this is not permitted and could result in your luggage not being checked.

How many solar panels does it take to charge a phone?

Using the car cord, most cell phones can be charged using any of our 5-20-watt solar panels. A few cell phone batteries are higher voltage and may require more than a 5-watt solar charger. It's always better to have a higher wattage panel anyway.

How long does it take to charge a phone with a solar charger?

It takes about 25-30 hours in ideal conditions to fully charge the power bank via solar and with a full charge, it can charge most cell phones about 12 or more times depending on the batteries mAh size and outage voltage.

How long does a solar charger last?

Most solar-powered chargers present about 300 to 400 charges before they “die.” If you plan to use your charger every day for a year, then your charger life will be about one to one and a half years, which isn't too long
